The production here is superb. Tyler has never been one for traditional song structure, but on IGOR he’s like the Minotaur luring you through a maze that twists and turns around seemingly impossible corners, drawing you into the thrilling unknown. ... This is Tyler’s best work to date.

Tyler and a motorcade's worth of supporting vocalists fulfill the promise and threat with what plays out, a creatively vital and emotionally heartsick set with as much pain, vulnerability, and compulsion as a classic soul LP.

The trademark visceral beats, scathing lyrics and the general feeling of anger and aggression that peppered his previous albums have been replaced with slower beats and irresistible soul hooks. At first this change in tone, and pace, is jarring and you are waiting for it to kick off, but as the album progresses you get into it and dig this new Tyler.

Whether or not you choose to take his advice with either your first or your 51st listen, IGOR is an accomplished and evergreen record that’s well worth putting your phone down, turning the TV off and devoting your full attention span to.

It’s an intriguing album with few dips (only Kanye’s verse on Puppet sounds rather phoned in and lacklustre), and it adds up to Tyler, The Creator’s best work to date. He may not be threatening Western civilization anymore, but he is creating something far more interesting.

IGOR is a commendable, yet flawed album, one that further challenges what we can and should expect from a rap album in 2019.

It’s is no bad thing that Igor downplays Tyler’s indomitable personality – but the writing and execution do not quite replace what has been lost. What’s left is a fine showcase of ingenuity that too rarely burrows very far into your consciousness.

He tries something completely new and unique telling us to create our own story and make our own favourite moments. How someone listens to it is how they will interpret the album. The album is absolutely fantastic.he tells a wonderfully sad love story so well and just perfectly. the album has absolutely amazing instrumentals, all unique and interesting, and like nothing I've heard before.Tyler has creatively evolved over the years and I am beyond excited to see what he can come up with next. Beauty comes on top. This album doesn't even feel like a rap album, in the classical sense. It is truly something different from a rap artist. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be taken on a trip of interest/confusion. Overall, I absolutely love this album. If the album were to be visualized, it would be an elevator ride, and every song is a new floor. Expand

The project only features scarce rap parts scattered over the course of it. The album's opener is a gritty mash of vocals, synthesizers & drums, clashing together beautifully to create an perfect beginning to the story of Igor that's underlining the album. This song is followed up by the beautiful EARFQUAKE, featuring Playboi Carti, also one of the highlights of IGOR. Tyler confesses his love to synthesizers over the course of this album, creating beautiful soundscapes mixed with gritty, dark rhythmic drums & vibes. With songs like RUNNING OUT OF TIME; GONE, GONE / THANK YOU; I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE & more, this album displays a big character growth for Tyler, further moving away from his young, provocative but good work and moving towards a mature Tyler, The Creator even more. Only 5 months in, one of the best Albums of 2019 has already been released by the young musician and rightfully deserves a 10. Expand

It's not a typical Tyler, the Creator's style, since it's a R&B dominant rather than a rap one. Other than that, it's wacky (in the best way), excitable, and surprisingly addicting. This project shows how prominent Tyler can prove that he can sing. Expand
