The Surge 2 is like a juicy, metal-plated bone that gamers looking for a well-crafted yet brutal combat experience can really sink their teeth into: it will push them to their limits, hurt and punish in all the right ways, but offers that sweet, sweet payoff when you finally emerge victorious.

The Surge 2 is still a fun improvement over the original that will win more people over with its tight and well-designed environments and combat.

Without a doubt, The Surge 2 builds upon the structure of what came before. Making already fun combat systems even more enjoyable is not an easy task, but Deck13 achieved it. The dedication to building Jericho City into a viable arena for death and exploration comes across in its intricate paths and hidden bits. But I do think just a bit more time and polish could have not only made the game a bit prettier but also resulted in a handful of additional bosses that really put players through the ringer. But The Surge 2 still rewards those looking for a hardcore game in a new setting. And who knows where a third game might go.

Thanks to a compelling combat system and a deep character customization, The Surge 2 is a better game than the previous one, but fails to stay close to the giants of the genre.

The Surge 2 is a solid game focused on combat - the fighting is superb, enjoyable and never becomes boring. The world is interesting, the technical aspect of the game was done competently (although there are some minor issues), and the level design, which was the most frustrating part of the previous game, was sorted out, too. About the biggest pitfall of the game is that it's a notch too easy for some.

I enjoyed playing through The Surge 2 more than I did the original. The changes to the combat are for the better, the gentler introduction is appreciated and the variety in equipment and environments is excellent. Unfortunately at release it is marred with technical issues which I'm sure will be patched out, but shows it was rushed out a little too soon.

An unfortunately hollow universe is troublesome but ultimately a low-priority concern in the grand scheme of The Surge 2’s more pressing matters. Its multiple failings are almost bewildering because of how closely it copies much of its identity from its spiritual predecessors. But those similarities to much better games just point out how little imagination The Surge 2 has and how inadequately it has attempted to implement those popular mechanics.

FIRST, is it better than the original? Yes and no.. yes, better overall flow and fluidity in combat and the game has many more overall weapons and armor sets.. so yeah, It’s a bigger version of the first with more bosses and the areas are well done.. no? Why, is it not better than the first? Warren should’ve been the main character but we will see it we get a Surge 3 and they give us back Warren.. no, also, because the main character customization wasn’t at all exciting and didn’t feel really gratifying of an experience.. code vein has much better character customization.. surge 2 limits cosmetics available to the player..

Overall, if you liked the first, you deserve to get the second.. maybe let it go on sale? I got mine for $40 this past Black Friday and it came with the DELUXE edition with art work and a mini comic and a cool case.. On the fence, don’t know if I will get the DLC.. probably not, but I did the theme park in the original Surge, so would be interested and may purchase theme park if they rotate it to the sequel. I have seen two or three ads FOR the theme park in my playthroughs and gotta say: I would eat it up if they recycled that DLC, with an original take on it but something similar with side quests and the sorts..

Generic dark soul clone. Game right now is unplayable, I would avoid buying it until its fixed.
