It successfully combines horror, action, survival, combat and story in a way that so few games do in this modern age. A Plague Tale: Innocence is also a reminder that the world still needs single-player story-based games, especially those that are as wonderfully beautiful and heartfelt as this one.

The way the narrative and gameplay fit together to make Amicia and Hugo’s journey both compelling and emotional is an impressive accomplishment that put A Plague Tale up there with the best of them. If you are in the market for a somber, story-driven game, I cannot recommend A Plague Tale enough.

A Plague Tale – Innocence is the type of game that comes around rarely in the risk adverse gaming space. Bleak and beautiful it will leave an indelible mark on any gamer willing to enter its rat-infested world.

A Plague Tale is a narrative adventure whose true protagonists are the rats. It is set in a realistic Middle Age Europe, during the Hundred Year War, and delivers an interesting story, and some well designed puzzles. On the downside, it is short (about 10 hours long) and some mechanics feel repetitive.

With a breathtaking atmosphere, an interesting story and a gritty realism applied to the late Medieval period, Asobo Studios offers a strong and memorable experience that overcomes its somewhat repetitive & by-the-numbers gameplay.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a morbid adventure. The engaging mystery is highlighted by an endearing cast of characters and their ever-growing trust in one another. Combat and puzzles rarely push back, but they make it easier to engage with the memorable narrative. Through it all, the omnipresent scourge of rats leaves a lingering impact as their shrouded forms slowly work their way through the corners of your mind and settle deeply into your bones.

A Plague Tale: Innocence deserves respect for daring to be different, funnelling you through a bleak European backdrop that’s seldom seen. Despite some neat ideas, though, the stealth and puzzle mechanics drag, and the story can’t quite make up its mind about what it wants to be. Furthermore, while the presentation is spectacular, the project lacks polish in key areas and overstays its welcome at times.

I found out about this game by chance, this gem came out of nowhere, and what an experience it is! The story is fantastic, the gameplay, the dialogues, everything is very well put together. Also the setting really draws you in and the world exudes with art and really makes you feel the unsettling feeling of plague as you roam around the village. Kudos to the developers for this incredible game! Expand

What captured my attention when I first heard of the game was the setting and rats as a threat. I was hoping that I won't be disappointedWhat captured my attention when I first heard of the game was the setting and rats as a threat. I was hoping that I won't be disappointed after release (it's an Indie developer after all) and damn, was I happy when I finished the first two chapters. The game looks absolutely stunning and the rats are a terrifying creation that simply hasn't been done in video games before. Sure, you encounter the stereotypical "rat in the basement" in various RPGs but Asobo created a creepy and deadly threat that keeps you on your toes. The story is very interesting and leaves you in the dark for quite some time. It builds up nicely and so does the relationship between the protagonists. I found myself hating the characters at some points and understanding why they acted the way they did later on. This is how character development should work. The environmental design is perfectly done. Stunning landscapes change into creepy and disgusting areas and back, each change reflected by the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.
The controls are a bit wonky at times and the walking/running looks slightly unnatural. Same applies to the facial animations. They often don't reflect the feelings that the top notch voice acting transports. Also, I would've wished for a slightly more challenging stealth and puzzle part. However, this is not an AAA developer and if you keep this in mind, it's an absolutely gorgeous game and the reason why I give it a 9 instead of an 8. Highly recommended.

It's unique in several aspects. The Setting is very unique and interesting. Also the gameplay is not something you see that much. I liked the way, how the game slowly introduced more weapons/ways to defeat enemies. I loved the characters, especially the two protagonists.
The atmosphere was great. The music was the best part.
I liked the story for the most part. It did go into the supernatural a bit too far for my taste.
Also the ending was a bit too quick. In the last chapters, I felt a bit rushed and I didn't get everything.
All in all a very good game still.

Great, just filled with game breaking bugs. An otherwise excellent title, but filled with unforgivable game breaking bugs
