- Summary: X4: FOUNDATIONS, the long awaited sequel in the successful X series, brings our most sophisticated universe SIMULATION ever. Fly every ship, EXPLORE space or manage an empire; TRADE, FIGHT, BUILD and THINK carefully, while you embark on an epic journey.
Dec 18, 2018If you dream of a single-player Star Citizen, or loved games like Freelancer, then this space sandbox will be a breath of fresh air in a much too sparsely populated genre. However, even though X4 is more accessible than X1–X3, it’s not a casual game. You have to work to figure out the mechanics behind Foundations, and if you put in the time, you’ll be rewarded with an experience that can last 100 hours or more.
Dec 28, 2018Foundations is more of the same niche-scratching space exploration from previous iterations with a more immersive feel and I can't wait to dive back into my personal galaxy. For those that have been watching the X series from the outside, Foundations is a great entry point, provided you meet the beefy system requirements.
Dec 25, 2018X4: Foundations is a far superior game to the last outing and is already on the right path to success, thanks to Egosofts diligent work in fixing issue s and enhancing the game. However, in its current state, it's still lacking core elements that help to make the game what it could be. Thanks to a broken in-game economy and an almost non-existent story, it can force you down paths and become boring, quickly. However, improvements to the war system has nullified this to an extent. It's a game on the rise and one to keep an eye on, likely worth buying in the near future.
Mar 5, 2019Just as its name says, this game is a great foundation for a really massive and great open world sandbox space adventure, where it's your choice to write your own destiny and play any way you want. But the massive and game breaking bugs simply stop players from delving more into it.

This accurately demonstrates Ego's devs reacting to player's complaints and patching bugs. This game(l.5 patch) is light years ahead of X3 and it's still not finished. The ship and station graphics are not short of awesome. They have never had great NPCs, it's not a FPS, it's a huge space sandbox and you will by far spend most of your time in your ship and other than the pilot/copilot you won't interact with NPCs a whole lot. Currently no major game breaking bugs for me. I hope they add some more long lasting plots. The X4 PHQ plot seemed too short and easy. Remember the HUB plot in X3? It seemed impossible at first. Maybe a plot somewhere between the 2 in difficulty. The variations possible to equip your ship are nice and well thought out. There are different weapons systems for different applications. Exploring is fun, You will spend time just looking at the beautiful scenes in sectors. you have various sensors long and short range to use. Ship fighting is good, for the most part it's better than X3.
I like the ship classes S-M-L-XL, They cleared up the M1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8.... mess from X3. I think more ship designs are coming. I like the 3D map. Ship commands while confusing at first are logical and usable.
Trading was a little buggy at first but mostly cleaned up and makes sense. Get a good ship captain, 3 stars for auto trading. After playing 140 hrs in game,
I have to give X4 Foundations a 10 as is and there is another update coming in 2019.… Expand

The game play functions so much missed in the previous game as for instance space legs and flying any ship have been brought into the game.
graphical wise it looks good and the performance is decent for a small team like this.
all in all i think egosoft did a great job.… Expand

X games are aTL;DR : the reports about bugs are just propaganda by Elite Dangerous fan boys or by those that refuse to learn the game. X games are a simulation and as such require you to be intelligent.
X4:F is best thought of as X:Rebirth v2. It has the features that made the classic X-series great like able to pilot multiple ships; fleets; fleet commands; wingman; gates; auto pilots; whilst also having some of the good features in X:R like a more modern look. Station scanning is still there but is no longer a requirement. Gone is the requirement that you have to dock and rely on the awkward FPS walking sim to do all trading. Once you dock you can do trading from your cockpit and later if you have a trading computer can do so from space and even tell your fleet to go pick it up.
The part I love the most is the map. It is fantastic. The ability to look for best buy-sell just by applying powerful filters and zooming out the map is very efficient, fast and a fresh take on doing trading.… Expand

As per Egosoft'sIt's rather disheartening but expected to see so many users gave up on day one, including the harsh first "critic" review.
As per Egosoft's standard practice, the game is by no means finished. As someone who's followed their series since X2, I've come to expect great things to come as they have always shown dedication and commitment to their designs. Even the much maligned Rebirth, which in my view was sadly beyond repair, has since become reasonable.
Complex background simulator that produces consequences to reach all corners of the universe
Improved flight model over previous games
Travelling doesn't take too long but isn't instant
Widest variety of customisations so far
Ship graphics are average at best
UI is very poor as it is
The universe and the choice of ships are rather limited (only five types of xenon?)
This game is good with faults on release, and with patience will likely become great with far fewer faults over 2019. It has slightly exceeded my expectations.… Expand

Then first time trying to dock i missed the landing platform subsequently hitting the side of the station which i then got stuck inside, after 20 minutes of struggle I restarted the game. Second run managed to dock except i now got stuck in the elevator, meaning i am knee deep into the floor and cant get out. After 5 minutes of struggle in the elevator I restarted the game. For my third run at the game i decided to jump to another system after flying around for a bit, shooting things and just looking at the really nice graphics and STAYING AWAY FROM OBJECTS. I took another jump, except this time the game launched me thousands of kilometers away from everything, i could not steer my ship, what sorcery is this??!!! At this point I realized i had made a grave mistake, thankfully steam has a great refund policy. :)… Expand

This is totally brokenThis game released in a terrible state, and the developers have done absolutely nothing to fix game breaking bugs. This is totally broken software, and the company has obviously employed people to come online and fake news it.
Core features like AI pathfinding do not work. The economy is broken. Wars do not happen. Look at the Steam forums for the incredibly long bug lists.
Egosoft shipped a game right before Christmas that was totally unplayable, took everyone's money, then went AWOL for 2 months "on holiday", presumably on our dime.
This is another Bethesda. This is another Hello Games.
Please don't buy this company's software. Instead, punish them into bankruptcy. Let's use the market to get better space games by not supporting awful studios releasing garbage.… Expand
