Everything is absolutely fantastic, and while in-game performance isn't perfect, it's hardly enough of a downside to affect my view of the game overall. Avalanche has truly brought the thunder.

With its extreme weather scenarios and the familiar, over-the-top usage of Rico’s grapple gun, wingsuit and parachute, Just Cause 4 is the most ridiculous and best it has ever been.

Just Cause 4 will not change the fact that I'm a fan of Rico and his sturdy approach.

It’s very much a make-your-own-fun kind of game. If you go the staid route of dishing out gun-ishment, it’s a lovely looking but rather empty third-person shooter. If you go the batshit insane route of tying everything to everything and adding rocket boosters, it’s a ballet of hilarious carnage that will likely result in your accidental death dozens of times. It’s just a dance that’s only changed a few steps from the last time.

Just Cause 4 is the perfect example of a game built around a concept or engine, which makes for a fun experience, without offering any depth or expectations.

Just Cause 4 is a wild and outrageous open-world game, and there are a lot of goofy and funny moments that are worth cherishing. But compared with its prequel, Just Cause 4 has barely changed in terms of gameplay.

Just Cause 4 has more of the same destruction and mayhem the series is known for, but the game has a litany of technical issues and empty mechanics that make it impossible to recommend.

At this time, I currently don't recommend you buy Just Cause 4, not because it is a bad game, but because this game was not ready for launchAt this time, I currently don't recommend you buy Just Cause 4, not because it is a bad game, but because this game was not ready for launch yesterday and has issues that most PC gamers will find unacceptable for a game in late-2018.

I started playing the Just Cause games when I got Just Cause 2 on my Xbox 360 with Games with Gold, I enjoyed the game as it was rather simple, fun, action-packed, fluid and played as I wanted it to play. I then bought Just Cause 3 on my Xbox One (at launch) and then on PC earlier this year when it was on sale. Same as JC2, I enjoyed JC3, same fun action, the wingsuit was an excellent addition, I loved the new mechanics, and all the movement felt extremely smooth. The Xbox version did have frame-rate drop issues and extremely long loading times, but my time playing the game on PC (ultra graphics) was excellent. And this is my first problem with Just Cause 4, it simply resembles a Just Cause game but it doesn't feel like one. The removal of the base liberation was the biggest change I noticed in Just Cause 4, they marketed the new physics engine (which is excellent BTW) as a way to creatively destroy enemy bases and infrastructure, but I never get the chance to do so as I have no motivation to blow sh*t up as I get no reward for it. Instead, conquering bases is a process of going there and completing linear and boring side-quests (mostly vehicle and wingsuit stunts) to complete the base. The system in JC2 & JC3 where you will liberate a base/town, and unlock challenges from there, was a far better system as it was easier to see your progress and would slowly piss-off the dictator you were trying to take down. However, in Just Cause 4, I really struggle to see a main goal in the game, the map view is so over-crowded with challenges and information that I mostly just fly around and see what happens.

It also annoys me that Avalanche Studios bragged for weeks about how they cared about the PC player base and were touting their excellent PC optimization, even for lower-end hardware. Yeah, bulls**t. Firstly, just like Just Cause 3, the settings menus and some aspects of the map are so poorly optimized for a mouse and keyboard and I don't understand why. For example, to apply a change to your graphics settings, you need to use the arrow keys to navigate down the list but then you can't press ENTER to click, you must then move your cursor over the button to click APPLY. Not to mention, who the hell presses RIGHT CLICK to go back when navigating menus?! Sometimes the game settings menus are unresponsive, don't select the right option, or don't work at all. It feels like a sh*tty console port of the menus. Sometimes the game will decide to launch in windowed mode @720p instead of fullscreen @1080p, even though I set it to that in the first place. In my case (I run a GTX 1060, i5 6600 & 8GB of RAM), I can achieve about 70fps on medium-ish settings and I'd like to commend the game on the consistency of this framerate, even during large explosions or when doing complex physics calculations. In terms of gameplay optimization, Avalanche has done a reasonable job, except for the crashing every hour or so.

In regard to core gameplay, Just Cause 4 is pretty fun. The gun mechanics and controls are nice, the grappling hook, wingsuit, and parachute play well, and the gameplay feels much more realistic than Just Cause 2 or 3, in my opinion. I like the vehicles, they are cool, the controls for planes still sucks (why can't I tilt or roll the plane with my mouse instead?), and Rico's new gadgets are bloody awesome. I especially have fun with his balloons as I love to lift soldiers and vehicles up into the air, drop them, and see what happens to blow up next. His booster rockets are cool to give every vehicle a boost or can make enemies fly. I'm not an awful fan of the changes the devs made to Rico's grapple tether as it now automatically winds up instead of doing it manually.

Most of the issues I have with Just Cause 4 are more than fixable. What I think Avalanche Studios need to do is sit down, take in all the feedback and reviews, and list common points from all of them as areas to fix. Little fixes like improving the menus, brightening up colours and the environment, fixing bugs and crashes, allowing better plane controls, and cleaning up the complicated map and information around it would do wonders for this game. Something like an Operation Game Health would keep Just Cause fans confident in this game and would keep the player base alive.

At the moment, however, Just Cause 4 just doesn't feel like Just Cause. It feels like a half-assed version of the game that was made to continue sales and revenue into the company.

    Hello!
In short - the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ diverge!
A little more detailed. The problem is in the developers. Steam says - Avalanche Studios, but this is a lie. There are two studios main Swedish Avalanche Studios and American Avalanche Studios New York. First donated to Just Coast 1-2, Renegate Ops, Mad Max, Hunter. Now the guys are working together with Software ID, on Rage 2, of course. Who are Avalanche Studios NY? And they did the same controversial with a bunch of shoals Just Coast 3. And they are the same subject ... and as practice has shown - comrades from the American studio NIHRENA do not learn from their mistakes. They managed to release the game - which will go down in history as the Worst part of the series ... they outdid their previous JC 3 ... These are talents ... Feedback is negative, because I hope that after seeing a squall of criticism and negative about the game, the head office Avalanche Studios in Sweden will disperse nafig these mediocrity and close the American studio.

I finally got to give the game a shot and... this is unplayable.

Graphics are a downgrade from the previous game. Just compare the textures or water effects, what you have in Just Cause 4 looks terrible! Even the explosions somehow look less impressive than what they used to.

But okay, so the game looks bad, how does it play? That was promising when I saw that game uses about 8 GB of RAM and VRAM is reasonable as well... but the framerate... I couldn't get a stable 30 fps in this game on a mid-range PC, and searching the internet shows that you need the top of the line GPU to play this game at 60 fps in a reasonable resolution! RTX 2080 TI is REQUIRED to play the game at around 60 fps in 1440p... Yeah, a game that looks about as good as Just Cause 2 and most players can't even play it at a reasonable resolution and framerate.

I won't even mention the crashing, glitching, nonsensical AI, castrated gameplay, terrible UI, the return of vomit inducing motion blur... because chances are high that you won't be able to run the game anyway, so why even bother?

What happened to the base objectives; the meaningless destruction. There might be objectives to accomplish, but I don't feel motivated to destroy as much as in previous releases. The graphics are just not of a AAA game in 2018. I just hated this game after playing an hour or so. What the hell happened to JC? Expand
