Anthem’s rich storytelling and engaging combat lays the foundation for Bioware’s newest adventure. While there are plenty of quality of life improvements to be made, Anthem’s ambitious approach to the looter-shooter genre is encouraging given the development team’s steadfast community engagement. With a roadmap stretching far into the horizon, we’ll be flying around the world of Anthem for a long time to come.

Anthem feels a bit award as a Bioware studio game because the narrative is clearly something that wasn't given priority, to the benefit of combat and exploration. The game still needs more content to live up to the promise made by a publisher as big as EA.

Anthem is certainly not a perfect production, considering the bad AI, the disappointing netcode and the way the online works. However, it has few (and not negligible) qualities, like a well-defined narrative universe, an excellent gameplay able to take advantage of the diversity of the javelins, undisputed protagonists, and a top-quality artistic component. Despite the few endgame activities present at the launch, Anthem still manages to adequately stimulate the development of the character, thanks to a good distribution of rewards.

Anthem offers amazing combat, astounding visuals, and excellent all-around production value, but suffers from baffling design choices and awful writing that hold it back from being something truly special.

Lots of potential and visually arresting, but lacking and flawed in execution. It needs more baking.

Defying classic RPG storytelling , Anthem‘s missions and campaign lack the variety, momentum and character-building that define the best games in the genre, and especially the best games from BioWare itself. That said, the voice acting is often great, the environments are incredibly beautiful and the action can be fantastic but eventually Anthem feels like all that colorful combat, sound and fury are in the service of nothing very interesting or innovative.

Even where it is strongest, Anthem rarely stretches beyond the derivative. The combat, while well-designed, is little more than Gears of War with jetpacks, and narratively it veers between inconsequential and downright irritating. This anthem is, sadly, a tedious and conservative dirge that we’ve all heard before

I played thousand hours on destiny 1,2 and the division, the most valuable similar anthem games. Anthem is in right direction.

Why does everyone hate this game so much? Feels like they're all just jumping on the hate train.

I've been loving this game. Gunplay is fun and varied depending on which javelin and what type of gun you use, the movement mechanics are solid, NPC character interactions are lots of fun, interesting characters and solid voice acting. The world is lush and inviting. And each of the javelins really feels like you're playing a different class, unlike other similar genre shooters where everything feels the same and you trade "shield resilience" for "shield recharge" (Destiny, I'm looking at you).

Sure, they've got some kinks to work out: load times need to be fixed, and can we PLEASE get something other than that one picture of the scar to look at? But this game has huge potential.
